St Andrew’s Junior School nestles against Gillooly’s Hill and comprises both primary and junior sections. The girls spend their break and lunch times in beautiful gardens chatting, playing chess or using the playground equipment. The premises are secure and the children learn in a hurt-free environment, based on an American system developed by Chris Matisse. This is a programme that encourages responsible behaviour and teaches children how to counter unkind and hurtful actions.
Our classrooms are cheerfully decorated, well ventilated in summer and heated in winter. In addition to a specially equipped science laboratory and DT room, St Andrew’s has a comprehensive library, an art room with its own kiln and two computer rooms containing a total of 45 computers. An audio-visual centre has an OHP and video-cam recorders. St Andrew’s follows the National Curriculum Statement that has a cross-curriculum approach and an outcomes-based assessment procedure. This means that each child is assessed on an individual performance and has the opportunity to develop to her full potential. St Andrew’s employs a multi-disciplinary team of therapists to whom girls are referred as and when the need arises.
There are numerous opportunities for extra-curricular activities. The girls are urged to join one of many different clubs, ranging from singing with the choir to having fun in Art Club or participating in a debate in Matterbox. A wide range of sporting disciplines are also offered.
St Andrew’s girls are confident and multi-skilled individuals who are encouraged to make the most of their junior school years and to be the best that they can be.
